March 1981 state flag demonstration at Parrott’s Ferry Bridge

On March 7, 1981 – FOR protestors staged a demonstration at Parrot’s Ferry Bridge, to underscore the rights of California to determine the height of New Melones Reservoir. This state flag demonstration was done as the reservoir was coming close to flooding the bridge and clearcutting was taking place, part of the last-ditch efforts to head off permanent flooding of the Stanislaus River canyon above the bridge.
