Based on a first 1976 exhibition, Condemned Rivers of the Mother Lode was a major exhibit shown first at the Oakland Museum in May-July 1977, and featuring over 100 photos by Don Briggs, Ron Pickup, Bill Center and others. The exhibit highlight 112 miles of rivers with dams threatening them, in order to build public support for river saving campaigns – rivers including the Stanislaus, Tuolumne, American and more. The exhibit eventually moved to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
