Clark's Flat, looking northeast up Stanislaus River canyon

Location: Clark's Flat
Status: Live River

Description:

Clark’s Flat was just upstream of the Camp 9 put-in. In this view, it is the large meadow in the lower part of the photo, with outstanding swimming pools and small waterfalls as you move up the river. In current times, it is extremely popular in the summer, as it is the only real river environment – the Camp 9 put in area and below is an ugly mess of dead tree branches and silted up river banks caused by the reservoir. (This photo show the bottom half of the Flat gashed for a channel to release NCPA’s hydro plant waters at the head of Clarks Flat.)
