Guide doing the Boatman’s Rock move

Location: Boatman's Rock, Sierra Club Rapid
Status: Live River
By: Larry Orman
Date: June 4, 1972
Description:

Boatman’s Rock was huge fun for those who tried to lay their raft up against it sideways, then jump out onto the rock, surprising passengers (sometimes they didn’t even know you were out of the raft!) when the boat slid around the very small cushion on the rock and they turned to see the guide up on the rock. The trick was to jump back in before the raft drifted out too far – otherwise it was time to swim back to your boat. The rock was immediately above Wino Swim, and just below Sierra Club Rapid, the end of which you can see in the whitewater upstream.
