Rock walls at Vic McLean's camp – likely built by Chinese laborers
Location:
Duncans'/Etcetera/McLean Camp
Status:
Live River
By:
Unknown
Date:
June 13, 1981
Description:
This wall was the back of an old ‘cabin’ (sometimes made of canvas, sometimes wood); the chimney remains are clear in this photo. Rock walls were stacked for paths and clearings, as gold mining took place in the river canyon in the later 1800s – mostly. Italian and Chinese miners were especially skilled at rock wall construction..
