Pioneer Stanislaus Outfitter Bryce Whitmore and his prized MG – 1926-2023

Jayne and Ty Childress just visited with Bryce in November of 2018. He and his two dogs, Raven and Georgia, live in southern Oregon. He still drives his MG to town when he needs groceries. He is 92. This photo was taken on a visit in 2015, during research for a biography about Bryce that Ty Childress is working on. In 2023, Bryce was inducted into the International Whitewater Hall of Fame.  Bryce passed away in November 2023, after living a long, adventure-filled life. He was the first outfitter on the Stanislaus River, back in the early 1960s – watch an interview with George Armstrong who started guiding with Bryce in the early 1960s.
