June 1963 rafting trip on the Stanislaus River – Martin Litton rowing one of the very first trips on the river

This is from a set of photos taken on a June 1963 rafting trip by Ty Childress.  This is likely a Wilderness Waterways (Bryce Whitmore) trip. Martin Litton (legendary environmental activist and later of Grand Canyon Dories fame) is rowing the basket boat, while Ty Childress’ father, Clyde, is in the back with a Hasselblad camera covered in a plastic bag.
