The Stanislaus Toyon tree planted at the State Capitol in 1978

In the August 1978, a pilgrimage was made from the Stanislaus River to the State Capitol, to carry and then to plant right outside Governor Jerry Brown’s office window a young Toyon tree, during a Stanislaus River Day rally.
