The NEW Stanislaus River Archive – Stories and much more!
April 16, 2026
Ok, we’ve talked about it for a long time – AND HERE IT IS! The newly redesigned and expanded Stanislaus River Archive is live!
Start off by first watching our jazzy 3 minute tutorial video – it will orient you to the whole approach on the Archive.
A completely reworked home page starts off the new experience, followed by an immersive Introduction to the Stanislaus River (this journey through the river’s story uses Esri’s ArcGIS StoryMap technology to allow for a scrolling pathway through the river, the threat of New Melones Dam, the campaigns to stop the flooding – and the legacy of moving forward after a devastating loss of the river).
Following that is the main course – the new STORIES page, which will be the main focus going forward (though we’re still interested in new images, documents and other materials!). Stories here are personal – they tell about people in our community did, thought and felt on the river and in the campaigns to save it. Check out the initial stories, many more are coming – and we welcome your ideas for stories!
We’re not done! We’ve created a whole new simplified Timeline (also using StoryMap techniques) that takes you through a century of history about the river and the campaigns.
All of this is on top of our huge archive of images and documents (over 3,000 now!) which you can browse through, or search thru using the Explore page.
AND – there’s another great new feature soon to arrive at the web site.. more on that later.
Enjoy this new generation of the Stanislaus River Archive!
