Kayaks and San Francisco fireboat as Row for the River lands at Aquatic Park, Sept 21, 1979

Kayaks in the Row for the River event, a 200 mile, 8-day journey from the Stanislaus River, out through the Delta and into San Francisco, to promote Proposition 17. Over 500 people awaited the 100 or so paddlers, 20 of whom had done the whole trip. In this photo, complete paddlers Don Ahlert and Robin Magneson (Center) are left/front (others need ID). In the distance the San Francisco fire boat is welcoming the flotilla (arranged by landing party coordinator Gracielle Rossi!), and in the middle distance is the prominent blow-up army decoy truck that wore a Proposition 17 banner on one side.
