90 sec. film clip of first Witness/Encampment site

Status: Live River
By: Bruce Raley
Date: April 1, 1979
Description:

A brief 90 second film clip showing the initial Witness and Encampment, located at Robinson’s Ferry, near the old town of Melones as it was being flooded by the dam on the Stanislaus River. Alexander Gaguine organized the Witness, so that, unlike Glen Canyon, ‘The place nobody knew’, people would experience first had the reservoir’s flooding of life in the Canyon. The Encampment kept moving upstream above the reservoir’s flooding and was the center of protests against the flooding of the Stanislaus River for the 10 days before it reached Parrott’s Ferry. (Mark’s stand for the River temperately halted the reservoirs rise this year.)
