ARTA trip – rafting gear in 1971
Description:
Rafting gear in the early 1970s was pretty rudimentary, as this image of an ARTA trip shows. A Yampa raft in the background has a center-deck frame loaded with a military surplus food box and ammo cans (repair and first aid), with passenger duffel bags made somewhat waterproof with a plastic liner bag – and of course the camp coffee pot. A basket boat sits next to the Yampa, its rowing frame barely attached by a few lines.
