Jacqueline Smithson featured in SF Examiner article in 1974
Jacqueline writes, in 2024: “I remember this so clearly, I was on a one-day ARTA trip, the only female guide on that trip. The reporter and photographer asked if they could ride in my boat. About a week later my dad called from San Francisco. He was working for Bechtel and always read the paper. He said he saw my photo in the paper, I didn’t even know it had been put in! Bechtel was somehow involved in supporting/funding/supplying materials for the New Melones Dam. I remember he chuckled at the irony of it all, I didn’t want a dam and he was working for a dam supporter… ” The newspaper article, written a couple weeks before the 1974 November election provides a short overview of different perspectives on Proposition 17.
