Marty McDonnell started guiding for Bryce Whitmore and his Wilderness Waterways rafting company  in 1965, after years as a kayaker.  In 1972, he took over the company from Bryce and renamed it Sierra Mac River Trips – one of the oldest rafting companies in the West now.
