Protest song in 1974 by Stan Wells against damming the Stanislaus
Stan writes: “I first encountered the Stanislaus when a college class took me backpacking there. Later, I heard there was a meeting in Corte Madera about saving the river. The meeting got me so riled up I got out of bed later that night and wrote the song – it took about an hour, it just wrote itself. That was around 1974.” The full lyrics of the song are on the Youtube site where this is posted, along with these notes: “This song is on my CD entitled “High Tide” available at CDBaby, Amazon, iTunes, and beyond. The images in this video came from Christian Kallen’s wonderful documentary “Last River Lost” about the struggle to try to save the Stanislaus River.” As a side note, see this article about the High Tide album.
