Rock dike near Devil’s Staircase rapid

Status: Live River
By: Valerie and Donley Olson
Date: November 25, 1974
Description:

There were several of these rock dikes (formed out of diorite) running across the Stanislaus River at and near Devil’s Staircase rapid – they were easy to miss if for no other reason than the fun of running that rapid with the big drop. This was taken during the Thanksgiving 1974 trip (post-Proposition 17), which accounts for little vegetation on the shore bank.
