Description:
An Avon Redshank raft (very small boat) with a bow spray skirt running down below Bailey Falls (in the background), getting ready for Widow Maker coming up. Helmets were a rarity back then but for these guys, probably well advised – note the ropes used to tie on paddles, but which could easily just wrap around an ankle or a leg when falling out or flipping. Also note the great spray of Indian Rhubarb in the front right – trimmed and cooked in butter, it could be tasty!
