The famous Sierra Club Cup, a guide's staple in the 1970s (and on)
This is a photo of a rare California Club cup. Echo co-owner (and one-time ARTA guide) Joe Daly has this to say: About Sierra cups: Right to the very end of my 43 years of guiding and doing river trips I carried a Sierra cup looped over my belt. In the later decades the younger guides tried to pick on me about carrying such a relic. I would simply smile back at them because I knew at some point during our trip together they would ask to borrow it. “Hey, Joe, can I quickly have your cup to get that pan of the fire?” Or, “Hey Joe, can I use your Sierra cup to get this container open?” There are a dozen other examples.
