Whatever it takes to kayak the Stanislaus River!

Description:
(Read the full story here!)  ARTA guide Scott Imsland on shore after nearly drowning in a little eddy below Suspension Bridge, where he lost his kayak paddle while trying to self rescue on a three day trip with his friend, Paul Begovac.  Scott lost his right shoe extricating himself from the kayak. With the whole trip ahead, Scott had to make a paddle out of a sapling cut down with a a Swiss Army knife and a luckily found raft paddle.  To make the blade for one end, we had to cut out a chunk of the Holloform kayak center support foam and lash it together.  Scott had to carefully navigate Bailey Falls, Widowmaker, and other rapids all the way down to around Mother with this rescue paddle.  But there we ran into some rafters who had found Scott’s paddle but were reluctant to return it.  Scott sweet talked them finally and they returned his paddle so we could carry on with our trip.  One of a kind experience, only with Scott.
